Sunday Morning
Christian formation for Middle &
High School youth (6th-12th grade) begins at 9:00 a.m. in Sean’s
Place.
Christian formation provides opportunities
for young people to deepen their relationship with God through
prayerful study of the Holy Scriptures, Liturgy, Episcopal
traditions and discussions.
Our goal is to offer youth experiences that help
open their minds and hearts to God, one another, our faith
community and the world.

Confirmation
8th & 9th grades
held on Wednesday evenings
(September through May)
7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
We help our young people, who have become members by their Baptism, to understand, appreciate, and claim their Christian faith as maturing disciples of Christ. We desire to help them continue their faith journey, their commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and say YES to becoming a member of the Episcopal Church through confirmation. AS they transition from early adolescence to pre-adulthood, we want them to have a strong relationship with God, their church, their family, other adults in the church and their peers. |

Feeding the Homeless
The Youth of St. Barnabas are also very involved in Mission/Outreach projects. One of the recurring projects our youth participate in is feeding the homeless. Here is an excerpt from a Minnesota priest (who happens to be our youth minister's father!) about his experience participating in this remarkable ministry:
"You should have seen the operation we attended last night. Nineteen from her church, mostly kids, gathered in the church's kitchen late in the afternoon. Twenty or thirty large pans of food were being warmed in the ovens. Huge bowls of fresh fruit salad started to appear from the kids madly chopping up the fruit. Gallons of fruit juice were mixed up. All the food and the tables, along with paper plates, plastic forks and napkins were loaded into about 6 cars.
Off we headed in a caravan toward downtown Phoenix. On the East side of the downtown area in an area of run-down warehouses, we pulled up to a street corner. Small groups of homeless people were huddled together chatting in the shade. An improptu picnic feast was about to occur. As we set up card tables and laid out the food, the homeless folks, mostly men of various ages and from every part of the world, started to line up in a courteous and happy line. The word seemed to spread across the blocks as groups of two or three came trudging toward this unannounced, new, albeit most temporary of restaurants, one which was giving away the food. For the next 45 minutes the homeless people gratefully filed down the serving line, thanking each of the kids who served them their food and then they wandered off with dinner in their grateful hands.
The cheese potatoes were the first to go, then the lasagna, then the desserts. Finally the last of the fruit salad was taken. The card tables were wiped up, the trash was picked up, and we piled back in all our cars to head back to church. Kate thinks about 221 people had dinner last night. She is now thinking about making extra pans of food at the next church dinner, knowing that she and her kids will do this all again.
And sadly, they'll not do it soon enough for all the homeless that live here."
Thanksgiving Dinner 2007 was held on November 22nd, a number of youth and adults took the leftovers as well as some freshly made shepherds pie to central Phoenix to feed the homeless, 254 persons were fed.
