The
Rev. Jim Clark, Rector
jclark@saintbarnabas.org
480.355.9755
Jim made his way through pentecostal,
evangelical, and charismatic traditions on his way
to joining the Episcopal Church in 1987. He describes
himself as a contemplative follower of Jesus, a “sane” evangelical
pastor, and a very happy and grateful member of the
Episcopal Church.
Jim has committed his life to being
a disciple of Jesus and inviting, cajoling, and nurturing
others in the same. His passionate hope is that the
Christian family can come to know Jesus in such a way
as to mature beyond reactionary-ism so as to see itself
as one family united in one God, one Lord, and one
Spirit. Were the Christian family to see themselves
as one family, Jim believes their contribution to the
whole human family realizing that it, too, is one family
would be monumental. Jim’s hope and passion is
for the maturation of the human family and the transformation
of the world, in a phrase, the full arrival of the
Kingdom of God.
Jim and his wife Betsy will celebrate
their 28th wedding anniversary this December. They
have four children, Jonathan, Andrew, James, and Hilary.
With a gentle grin Jim comments, “When Betsy
and I were married our pastor said, ‘Jimmy, you
are marrying your seminary. She is the gift of the
Holy Spirit to you. She will teach you all you need
to know.’ Hyperbole of course, nonetheless, what
God has taught me through Betsy and the children far
exceeds all else.”

The Rev. Brent Owens, Associate for Children, Youth & Family Ministries & Newcomers
brent@saintbarnabas.org
480.355.9751
Brent grew up in Bowling Green, Ohio
and Tampa, Florida. He attended high school in Maryville,
Missouri where he met his sweetheart and future wife, Malinda.
After receiving a business degree from Indiana University,
Brent attended law school at Stetson University in St.
Petersburg, Florida. He was a Board Certified Civil Trial
Attorney practicing for 15 years in Tampa and Southeast
Florida.
While a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in West Palm Beach, Brent’s ministries included: Cursillo & Happening teams, youth mission trips, junior & senior high Sunday school teacher, soup kitchen, environmental stewardship, capital fundraising, junior & senior warden. Like a boomerang, God’s call kept coming back to Brent stronger each time, and in 2002 he left the practice of law to pursue ordained ministry.
Convinced that it must be a call for
the entire family, Brent and Malinda moved to Austin,
Texas with their three children
to attend seminary. Brent graduated from the Episcopal
Theological Seminary in the Southwest (ETSS) in May of
2005 with a Masters of Divinity degree. He began his
ministry at St. Barnabas in July of that year, and was
ordained to the priesthood on October 29, 2005.
Brent’s interests include road
bicycling and mountain biking in the Phoenix Mountain
Preserve. A real “car guy,” Brent raced in
vintage Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) events in a
Triumph Spitfire and has restored numerous British sports
cars. Their children are: Jillian, age
16; Bradley, age 12, and Crystal, age 7.

erika@saintbarnabas.org
480.355.9753
Erika finished her M. Div. degree at General Theological Seminary in New York City in May 2006. Ordained priest in December of 2006, she is originally from the Diocese of Minnesota where she was involved in Diocesan Young Adult Ministry, the University Chaplaincy at the U of MN and discerned her call to the priesthood through St. Mark's Cathedral in Minneapolis.

Her training in the backstage world has developed into one of her newer projects at St. Barnabas: Liturgical Coordination. Erika also manages the St. B's website and especially delights in her primary portfolio: overseeing all of the remarkable Mission Ministries that we are called to as a parish.
During seminary, Erika enjoyed exploring the role of women in scripture and the early church and considers Blandina the greatest female martyr. Her opportunity to "go west" has led to a wonderful new life that has felt just like home since the very beginning. Her other interests include travel, reading, sudoku, solving Nancy Drew mysteries & geocaching with her husband, Alex.

The Rev. James Smith, Deacon
480.563.2362
I was born in Long Beach, California, and that was my home until I joined the Armed Forces in December 1943. After basic training I was assigned to an antiaircraft regiment, serving as a meteorologist until the government summoned 1.5 million men to the infantry. I went overseas in 1944 and joined the 7th Division Infantry in Okinawa. After my discharge in 1946, I went back to college at USC in Los Angeles. Upon my graduation in 1950 I was fortunate to be hired by a national brand menswear corporation for training in their sales department.
I met a lovely lady and after a year of dating we were married and our three daughters were born during the next ten years. We were a loving, church-going family, and our girls all completed their university educations and were married. During my 40 years with the Arrow Shirt Company my family made several moves across the country, finally settling in Phoenix in 1958, where I eventually retired. We had found the Episcopal Church in Scottsdale, and after baptism and confirmation we joined the church in 1959.
These last 50 years at St. Barnabas have been quite eventful for our family as we continue to grow in faith, outreach, and love. My wife Joyce died in 1992 after a battle with cancer. Three years later I met my current wife, Diane, at St. Barnabas and we were married in December 1995.
Soon afterward I was asked by the church to consider serving in the diaconate. I accepted and was ordained after two years of training at the Cathedral. Although I found it difficult to return to school in my 70’s those two years of education and spiritual growth taught me what it means to truly love our Lord and our fellow man. I can honestly say that these past four years of serving the Lord in outreach, including our lunches program for the homeless and visiting shut-ins and hospital patients, have been among the best years of my life.

Susan Meyer-Weidhaas, Bookkeeper
susan@saintbarnabas.org
480.355.9759
I was born and grew up near in Holland, MI. The third of seven children,(I have five sisters & one brother). I attended Davenport college where I received my Associate degree in Accounting. Why Accounting? Well with out accounting the world wouldn't turn too well (at least in my mind)! Plus I like working with numbers and digging into problems.
After completing my degree I moved to California to find the perfect job. (Getting away from the cold and into the sunshine was also incentive to move.) Once there I worked at several different accounting type business and for 14 years I worked at TRW, Inc ( now Northrup Grummen) before moving to Arizona via a job transfer for my husband. After six months off, I started working for Bechtel Corp in the payroll department were I did a lot of reconciliations and various other tasks. In December of 2004 I quit working so that I could spend more time with my children and husband.
In June, my husband Mark and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary. We have two children, Hanna who is 11 and Emily who is 7. We have been living in Arizona for 9 years now and I am still trying to get acclimated to the hot summers. We live in NE Phoenix and enjoy all the open area.
In September of 2006, I started working as a temp at St B’s and in January was hired on as permanent staff. I really like working at St. B’s because I really feel like I am welcomed and appreciated. I love the environment I work in. I finally think I’ve found that perfect job.
